and this is why Renegades are bottom and winless.

chasing 156 and with 8 overs to go, the RRR around 9, but with Finchy on 50, they concede 2 run outs and a caught in the deep in a single over, leaving their run chase in tatters.

inexplicable really... these are professional cricketers.... most of them experienced in this format.... to lose their heads like that beggars belief

Durham-esque!

Carey seems to take a lot of time to score his runs. Today it he used up 6 overs to score 40 runs... the other day was similar. Not sure where the balance lies between someone who regularly score runs but only ever scores them at about a run a ball. Sometimes 40 or 50 runs at SR 100 can lose you games. Still.... Strikers are doing okay, so perhaps he has the balance right

Melbourne Stars were lucky to get away with a win first after being 0-1 and then slumping from 122-1 to 142-7 before getting the victory.

They have a lot to thank Nick Larkin for as his 65 at first drop was invaluable to keeping the show on the road.

Just so long as the Stars don't win the comp, all is fine.

Even better if they play well all tournament, only to fall apart at the last moment.

highest ever BBL score, seemingly, beating Dame D'arcy Bussell's 122 and pushing Big Luke's 117 down into 3rd

I'm watching Sydney Thunder have a run-out ahead of tomorrow evening's game. The ACT training facility and oval is right across the road from my office, so I get a premier seat (and they've played some state second XI matches out there as well).

They are practising in an increasing haze of smoke, so it might not last long. I'm planning to attend the game tomorrow, but I reckon it's 50:50 at best whether the air will be too unpleasant to go.

Oh FFS.

It has literally not rained in Canberra for three months, barely a drop, and the night I go to the cricket, rain stops play.

I can't be too upset though. Modded knows we need the rain. I'm praying it will bucket down. After 10pm...

I should have had a fiver on the Renegades. I was confident they were going to break the drought. Thunder had an unbalanced team selection, and without Chris Green they haven't been as effective with the ball.

The rain certainly didn't help matters, but when you're 30 odd for 3 down after 5 overs in a chase of 172, you can hardly complain that a rain-revised target was tough. Feguson's wicket was massively unlucky though - complete fluke, the bowler had no idea where the ball was.

more rain in the BBL.... not often I celebrate rain at a cricket match
