Bangladesh Premier League

Managed to catch my first game of this today in the form of Chattogram vs Khulna.

Rilee Rossouw, hot from that random T10 League, had the beating of Chattogram as he fired 64 off 38 balls to allow Khulna to overturn the target of 145 in a mere 14 overs. Rossuouw is aprtial to this tournament - in his last 12 innings in the BPL he has scored 614 runs at an average of 102 and a strike rate of 151.

Managed to catch parts of both games today.

Rajshahi absolutely destroyed Sylhet - bowling them out for 91 in the 15th over before needing only 10 overs to win. BPL veteran Alok Kapali got 3-17.

In a slightly more even game Dhaka's 180 proved out of reach for Comilla - despite the fact that it looked achievable in the middle overs before a Thisara Perera masterclass. The Sri Lankan got three wickets in the 18th over to add to his two earlier on. Perera became the first player to score over 40 runs and get a fivefer in the BPL.

Anamul Haque's 62 was enough to see Dhaka to 182 - a total that Sylhet could not overturn.

Dhaka are now joint top of the table alongside Chattogram who also won today against Rangpur.

Today was one of those games where the stand out player ended up on the losing side.

Mohammad Shahzad got a 27 ball 61 to help Rangpur to 181 however Comilla managed to overturn that to claim their second win of the tournament

England's own Lewis Gregory was man of the moment in Chattogram as his 37 ball 76 helped Rangpur overturn the home side. He also got two wickets.

This was something of a turn up for the books as, going into the game, Rangpur had four losses from four games whilst Chattogram had only lost one from seven.

Managed to catch parts of both BPL games today.

First off Dhaka beat Comilla to overtake them in the middle of the table. It was something of a one man show for Comilla as Bhanuka Rajapaksa got a T20 high score of 96 whilst his team mates got 10, 0, 9 and 30 as his team got to 160-3. Dhaka overturned this with two balls to spare.

In the second game, Andre Russell starred with the ball rather than the bat as he got 4-37 to limit Khulna to 145-9. His Rajshahi team walked it with two overs to spare to move to second in the table. Fans of obscure stats will like that this is the 11th time Russell has scored 25+ runs and for three or more wickts in a T20 game. This takes him clear of Mohammad Hafeez and Shane Watson with whom he shared the record before today.

Shahidul Islam put in the strongest performance in the BPL today and helped his Khulna side to a win against Rangpur. He gutted the Rangpur middle order with his 4 wickets coming at the loss of just 23 runs. Khulna are now up to 3rd.

Another dominant bowling performance, this time from Taskin Ahmed saw Rangpur defeat Rajshahi in the R Derby.

Chasing 182, Rajshahi were hit throughout their innings by the Bangladesh international who refused to let a partnership settle and finished with 4-29.

This win takes Rangpur away from bottom of the table Sylhet who have just one win in their 8 games.

Seems like a while since Shane Watson has been the main man in a T20 game but he was influential in Rangpur's victory over bottom placed Sylhet.

Watto's 68 made up a significant part of the 199 Rangpur made ....far too much for Sylhet who were all out for 161

Sylhet really are having a poor season - not even a score of 47 from Mohammad Mithum was enough to give them a decent enough total to give Rajshahi a run for their money.

They got to 143-6, a score that Rajshahi managed to overturn in just 15 overs.

Nayeem Hasan was in danger of being forgotten in this years BPL. The Bangladesh youngster has made a big impact on the national team but has registered poorly in the BPL this year with 2 wickets in his 7 games up to this point. This is largely due to the fact he is playing for Sylhet - the weakest team in the competition.

Today he manage to get a three-fer....but still lost to Cumilla with them overturning Sylhet's total of 141 in the last over.

Dhaka and Rangpur were in third and second at the start of this game but the gulf in class on the day was huge.

After putting on 145-9, Dhaka then humiliated Rangpur by getting them out for 84. On a day where three bowlers got three wickets it was the solitary bowler from Rangpur who came out tops as Mehedi Hasan got 3-13 in his 3.3 overs to claim the emphatic win.

Big scoring game today between Dhaka and Khulna.

Batting first Dhaka got 205-4 before Khulna bested that with 115 from Najmul Hossain Shanto - the highest score of the tournament this season.

Khulna are now joint top of the table alongside Rajshahi.

Khulna made it through to the finals at the first time of asking by beating Rajshahi today. The highest scoring team in the tournament batted first and got to 158 before shooting Rajshahi out for just 131. Mohammad Amir got a stunning sixfer – the first in the history of the BPL.

Rajshahi go on to play Chattogram for the last berth in the final.

Khulna beat all comers in the league, beat Rajshahi in the qualifier to get straight to the final....but finished second best on the big day.

Irfan Sukur didn't set the world alight throughout the competition - averaging 29 - but got a 35 ball 53 to get Rajshahi to 170. A total that Khulna didn't get near - languishing at 149-8
