England did try bringing in a bunch of domestic T20 specialists to complement the existing England players, back in 2009 (I think), but of these, the only ones to not look woefully out of their depth (I'm being deliberately harsh here, some of them were never really given any sort of chance to shine at all) were Maddy and Solanki, both of whom had some international experience behind them to fall back upon
The established England internationals play hardly any T20, either internationally or domestically, and the one who has the most ability, the most experience, the most knowledge of the format, and the fear factor.... has, as we all know, been sacked from the side. Sadly the winning domestic formula in England is the Hampshire model, which involves preparing a lifeless beach and packing the side full of spinners and dibbly dobbly wobblers, so the young domestic players never really get a chance to learn the vital skills at domestic level that will one day help them on the international stage.
I imagine that this is why the likes of Dernbach, who I think must have a pretty good domestic record, gets flayed to all parts when he plays for England
