Day Two of the LPL saw Colombo win their first match in the competition, beating Galle by 4 wickets with 15 balls remaining. Colombo showed some good bowling skills with wickets shared around. The best figures were Dhananjaya De Silva's 2-18 as Colombo limited Galle to just 116. Colombo eased to that total.

Dambulla beat Kandy in the earlier game.

Despite Galle playing twice, Dambulla's Phil Salt scored 64 today to take him to the top in terms of runs. Pulina Tharanga has used that unfair advantage to his favour and has 4 wickets.

This competition is nothing if not competitive.

Galle won today to read: played 3 games won two as they beat winless Kandy. Samit Patel continued his strong start to the season with another 3fer as Kandy only got 143. Galle were at risk of losing their way in the middle overs but went on a late assault to win with 4 balls remaining.

Dambulla, who scored 190 yesterday, only got 110 today to see Jaffna get an easy inaugural win.

With 6 wickets Samit Patel is the top wicket taker and scores of 56, 2 and 22 put Bhanuka Rajapaksa makes him the highest run maker - however both these Galle players have played 3 games to the other teams 2 or 1.

Managed to catch both games today

First up Kandy pulled off a shock to beat Galle, largely due to their bowling attack strangling Galle to 127-7 in their 20. Kamindu Mendis got 3-25 as Kandy registered their first win.

In the second game Dinesh Chandimal's half century could not lift Colombo off the foot of the table as they lost by a solitary run. Despite scoring 21 off the 17th over, Colombo left themselves with to much to do with 11 needed off the last. Dambulla are now a point clear at the top but Jaffna are yet to play their 5th game.

Samit Patel sits atop the wicket column still with 9 whilst fellow Englishman Phil Salt leads the way in terms of runs.

Colombo won their second game of the season to relegate Landy back to the bottom of the table. Batting first Colombo's returning captain Angelo Matthews helped the Stars start strongly with a score of 73. They finished their 18 (rain) overs with 162-7.

Galle fought for it but after a gutsy opening their middle order let them down and they eventually finished 41 runs behind the required total.

Dinesh Chandimal scored 36 today to see him edge one run over Phil Salt's tournament haul of 180.

It has been a wildly divergent tournament for Colombo thus far. After going the first 3 games without a win they are now undefeated in their last 3. Today's victory was a smash and grab against Kandy.

If you'll forgive the list they meeded:

63 in the last 5 overs
54 from 4
46 from 3
31 from 2
16 from the last 6

But they still managed to pull it off with 2 balls remaining.

The early work had been put down by Dushmantha Chameera who got wickets in both his spells to finish with 4-35. Kandy's score of 146 was Bang on par for the tournament but in the end Colombo looked to be the stronger of the two. They are now up to fourth in the table.

In the evening game it was the battle of the highest runscorer (Phil Salt) versus the highest wicket taker (Samit Patel). It was Samit's Galle team that came out on top of a low scoring rain affected game. That being said it was Dambulla's Imran Tahir who looked the most effective with figures of 3-20 however he and Salt ended up on the losing side. Galle are now up to second whilst Dambulla have done a reverse Colombo and lost their last three games after winning their first 3.

Jeffrey Vandersay popped up today to claim the joint 38th best T20 figures of all time today (6-25) as Colombo continued their Phoenix from the ashes resurgence. (Maybe I shouldn't use the word Ashes.

The impeccable performance saw Kandy get only 124 in a chase of 182 to shrink the gap to the top of the table.

Second place Galle beat first placed Jaffna to make it all very interesting at the top. Samit Patel got another two wickets taking his total to 15. In the Chandimal-Salt battle for highest run scorer, the Sri Lankan got 44 for Colombo today to reclaim the title. He has a 28 run lead on Salt.

Dambulla progressed to the fight another day by beating Colombo today.

Dambulla have a lot of firepower in their midst and it was the turn of Janith Liyanage to impress as his side chased down 145 with an over to spare. Colombo finished higher than Dambulla in the table but had a season of two halves. Dambulla go on to face the winner of the evening game.

Jaffna quite rightly and quite emphatically won the final qualifier and go on to face Galle in the final on Thursday.

Avishka Fernando scored a century to claim the highest individual total in the tournament this year as Jaffna also got the highest score of the tournament - 210. Dambulla tried to match them but went too big too soon, took too many risks and lost too many batsmen.

Dambulla's Phil Salt has 301 runs but is followed by Galle's Kusal Mends who has the final to make up the 13 runs needed to overhaul him. 3 bowlers have 15 wickets but Samit Patel, who has led throughout, has the best economy and another game in hand. Jaffna's Maheesh Theekshana could also nick it from him at the end.

Jaffna got the better of Galle in the final despite having to go the long way round.

Again it was Avishka Fernarndo who led from the off with 63 off 41 as Jaffna got another 200+ score. Galle got to 178 in their chase which was their second highest total of the tournament but not enough. In a strange way, the fact that Galle was never tested meant they didn't have it in their locker on the big day.

Kusal Mendis got 39 in the final taking him to the highest run scorer whilst his team mate Samit Patel got another wicket in the final. His nearest challenger Maheesh Theekshana also got one to see him joint lead wicket taker with Samit - however Samit's 16 weeks were at a better average and a better economy.
