Huge totals this week and a huge amount of movement in The List

Weekly Update

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 408 - Quite quiet all year and then a monster score in the final month of the year. Despite the big score is only up a solitary place to 8th.

2. Steve Smith - 320 - Is starting to put his poor form behind him and producing some batting displays to make you sit up and take notice once more. So far behind the pace was he that 320 points does not see him move up from 18th place overall.

3. Joe Root - 216 - Bit of an all-round performance from the newly christened spin bowling option. All disciplines chipped in to see him finish third this week. He also moves back into the Top Ten.

4. Moeen Ali - 213 - Big things were expected of Moeen in the Abu Dhabi T10. He was dire for most of it and then pulled out a huge display in the game that knocked them out.

5. Travis Head - 209 - Is having something of an international revolution in the last few weeks of the year. Finished just short of a century in the first Test vs West Indies and also bagged two wickets to finish in the Top 5 once more.

Overall

1. Simon Harmer - 5856 - The presumptive Cricketer of the Year was inactive this week.... but he deserves to put his feet up.

2. Mohammad Rizwan - 4705 - Back in the points again this week but not enough to even cause a frisson of a potentiality of a hope of an interest of pushing top spot.

3. Moeen Ali - 4020 - Such was his poor form in the Abu Dhabi T10 that it was fully expected that Moeen would lose his Top 3 place however two blistering scores in his last two games puts 72 points between him and 4th.

4. Babar Azam - 3948 - A century knock for Pakistan against England was not enough for him to reclaim 4th spot.

5. Quinton De Kock - 3493 - Inactive for a calendar month.....but still holding on to 5th. This week could be his time of reckoning; he is only 166 points off the Test playing Ben Stokes.

Other Movers

So many players have registered scores outside the Top 5 for the week but have seen themselves move up The List. Ben Stokes move sup the most and finishes the highest - up from 8th to 6th. Meanwhile the 2 Aussies Warner and Cummins are both up a place to 11th and 16th respectively.

Ones to Watch

With the Australian Summer in full swing one of the big questions is, how far can Marnus go. He is in great form and is 2 points off 7th, 70 off 6th and 236 off 5th.

Top Three Averages

1. Simon Harmer = 195.2
2. Ben Stokes = 135.8 (Up from 134.75)
3. Babar Azam = 131.6 (Up from 129.93)

Steve Smith has improved his average by a huge 10.58 points a week to 97.68. It underlines Rajapaksa's awful year that, after having the lowest average already he has leaked the most and now only scores 67.15 a week.

Think probably hold steady to be honest.

The main question is whether we have enough contributors to go back to 2 picks per player or stick with 3.

Will launch it next weekend when I've knocked off work.

This is true....but Smith, Head, Williamson, Critchley, Rajapaksa and Williamson have all played less than him.across the year.

Weekly

1. Hasan Ali - 400 - Has had a very interesting 2022. Has been largely anonymous for a majority of the year and then pops up with huge scores - this week courtesy of all round prowess in the Pakistan Cup. This is his 4th Cricketer of the Week award - only Harmer has more. Is up 2 places to 10th.

2. Travis Head - 273 - Two great Tests on the trot for Head who scores his second consecutive 200+ score. Moves above his international captain Pat Cummins into 15th place on the Overall List.

3. Marnus Labuschagne - 264 - 2021's Cricketer of the Year is probably in the form of his life in international colours and finds himself near the top of the List for the Week once more.

4. Joe Root - 159 - A similar story to last week. Not a huge yield of runs this week but backs it up with wicket and economy points. Despite the fourth highest score of the week, Root manages to move DOWN a place overall.

5. Babar Azam - 106 - Babar continued his trend of bagging one big score coupled with one single figure score - this time his big score wasn't quite as big. Pips Simon Harmer to the Top 5 by a solitary point.

Overall

1. Simon Harmer - 5961 - Scored just over 100 points in a warm up game for South Africa but it will do as the 2022 Cricketer of the Year enjoys his 1000 point cushion in the run in.

2. Mohammad Rizwan - 4755 - Only the 50 points for Rizwan this week but such is the gap between himself and third that we can hand him the silver medal now.

3. Babar Azam - 4054 - It took him slightly longer than expected but Babar Azam is back up into third spot courtesy of his impressive form in the Pak v Eng series. Can he hold out for a Top 3 spot at the end of the year?

4. Moeen Ali - 4020 - Inactive this week and down a place to 4th. As far as I can see, Moeen is not scheduled to play anymore cricket this year. Can he finish in the Top 5 with his 500 point gap over 6th.

5. Marnus Labuschagne - 3589 - Last graced the Top 5 20 weeks ago and puts himself in the mix once more. Interestingly, 3 of the 4 previous Cricketer of the Year winners are now in the current Top 5. Only Maxwell is missing for the full set.

Ones to Watch

Ben Stokes is the man to watch as we head into the Final Test. He has just 7 points between him and inactive Quinton De Kock and then a further 103 to get into the Top 5.

Top Three Averages

1. Simon Harmer = 192.29 (Down from 195.2)
2. Ben Stokes = 134.08 (Down from 135.8)
3. Babar Azam = 130.77 (Down from 131.6)

Hasan Ali's average takes a huge pump of 11.01 points thanks to his huge score. KL Rahul's score of just 8 sees his average descend to 93.39,

Weekly

1. Pat Cummins - 230 - Last time he topped our weekly table was all the way back in March however 7 wickets in the opening match in the series versus South Africa sees him go big. He also moves up 3 places to 13th on the overall List.

2. Babar Azam - 172 - Azam is making a good line in not doing amazingly well but still posting decent numbers. He has now been in the Top 5 for 3 weeks in the last month.

3. Hasan Ali - 144 - Nowhere near his heroics of last week but Hasan is reminding everyone that he is a decent all-rounder on his day with contributions with both bat and ball.

4. Rishabh Pant - 136 - Inactive for 3 weeks and unimpressive for longer than that - Pant put on a decent score this week and also contributed significantly with the gloves.

5. Travis Head - 132 - Scoring international runs for fun at the moment. Another big score in the First Test against South Africa sees Head finish in the Top 5 once more.

Overall

1. Simon Harmer - 5961 - Inactive again this week. he deserves a place in the Boxing Day Test as a swansong for his amazing year.

2. Mohammad Rizwan - 4781 - Rizwan has ended his year with more of a whimper than a bang but can still be assured of second place.

3. Babar Azam - 4226 - Putting up good numbers of late but left it too long to make any real dent on second place. 206 points separate him from 4th and 555 from 2nd.

4. Moeen Ali - 4020 - His race is run for 2022...would take a miracle to displace him from 4th place. he has spent more time than anyone else in that spot and has a gap of 413 points between him and 5th spot.

5. Ben Stokes - 3607 - Stokes pops into the top 5 to say hello - however is inactive for the rest of the year whilst Labuschagne, in 6th, has a whole other Test to play and only 2 points to finish the year in the Top 5.

Ones to Watch

Travis Head is in the form of his life. He is 15th as it stands but has a packed field ahead of him. With a fair wind he could finish as high as 12th.

Top Three Averages

1. Simon Harmer = 192.29
2. Ben Stokes = 133.59 (Down from 134.08)
3. Babar Azam = 132.06 (Up from 130.77)

As you would expect, Pat Cummins' average swelled the most. Up a huge 5.03 points to 104.38 per active week. Rajapaksa already had the worst average and then scored 0 this week. He will end on a meagre 64.68 points per active week.
