Weekly Top 5

1. Joe Root - 348 - Struggling to score big in both innings saw him not as clear of a leader as he could have been. He has now matched his Cricketer of the Week total for the whole of 2020 in just six weeks.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin - 320 - An inspired second innings 6-fer gave Ashwin a huge burst of points to put him in contention for Cricketer of the Week. Slightly let himself down with the bat.

3. Ben Stokes - 219 - Not a bravo performance but Stokes makes his debut for 2021 with a third place finish. A lack of bowling held him back.

4. Jasprit Bumrah - 154 - Was kept quiet by the English batsmen but a tidy economy and three wickets sees him finish fourth for the week.

5. Babar Azam - 105 - Makes his way to fifth in the weekly table despite scoring 0 in the first T20i. 105 is a poor yield for a Test match but it has been a quiet week so he nips into fifth spot. He has the second lowest average of any player to have played +2 weeks at 52.5.

Yearly Top 5

1. Joe Root - 1098 - 2021 has been a phenomenal year for Root - and he is well worth his move up to the top spot. The last time he had pole position was in October last year where he held it for 3 weeks. Can he beat that record this time?

2. Marnus Labuschagne - 1013 - Inactive this week but has a clear 383 point lead on third place as the Australian domestic season resumes.

3. Nicholas Pooran - 630 - Straight back from Abu Dhabi and into the Super 50 domestic coemption for Pooran this week. His 83 was the first 50 over points we have seen this year. He moves up a spot to third.

4. Glenn Maxwell - 570 - Another inactive player. Injury is going to see Maxwell spend a little while out the game. How low will he drop on The List? Last year we see him drop as low as 16th before finishing just outside the Top 5. Anything is possible for The Big Show.

5. Kane Williamson - 491 - Inactive this week and holds off Ravichandran Ashwin by the skin of his teeth. Will be out of the top 5 by next week's round up.

IPL Auction update

All players that were released have been sold early doors.

Steve Smith, the current 7th best player on The Cricket List, finds his way to Delhi

Glenn Maxwell, a previous winner of our List and current 4th place Cricketer, sparks the biggest series of bids but ends up with Bangalore for 1425L.

Maxwell had the lowest average points for any player to have played in 3 or more games in last year's IPL.

Dawid Malan, eighth in this year's Cricket List, goes to Punjab

Moeen Ali, as yet unplaced on this year's Cricket List, goes to Chennai

The thumb injury that he'd come back from at the end of the BBL is the reason Siddle isn't playing in the shield...... loafer!

Weekly Top 5

1. Ravichandran Ashwin - 429 - An all round display of excellence from the Indian sees him finish Cricketer of the Week. It is his first time in 58 weeks that he has claimed top spot. 429 is the 7th highest weekly score we have ever had.

2. Moeen Ali - 349 - A confusing week for Moeen. Departing the Ind v Eng series after a strong showing but securing a new IPL deal with CSK. He finishes second for the week and debuts in 10th spot on the overall List.

3. Steve Smith - 237 - A mixed bag for Smith this week. His 177 points from the opening Marsh Cup figure was bolstered by a meagre 60 from his return to Sheffield Shield action. It was enough for him to claim third for the week though.

4. Marnus Labuschagne - 157 - Marnus only featured in Sheffield Shield action this week - and his return to long form cricket was decent enough for a top 5 weekly finish.

5. Babar Azam - 133 - Babar is back on the T20 trail. He started this week playing for Pakistan and is now in full PSL mode. As it stands his 133 T20 points puts him bottom of that particular format. How high can he rise during his home domestic tournament?

Overall Top 5

1. Joe Root - 1217 - Despite a dip in form in the most recent Test, Root manages to hold top spot for a second week. His lead on second place is just 47 points.

2. Marnus Labuschagne - 1170 - The Queensland player has narrowed the gap between himself and top spot but still has to be satisfied with the second step on the podium this week.

3. Ravichandran Ashwin - 898 - An all time great List performance sees Ashwin jump from 6th to 3rd in a week. Another great Test and he could be pushing for top spot.

4. Nicholas Pooran - 715 - The Trinidad and Tobago player stormed into the top 5 last week with 82 from one Regional Super 50 game. This week he got 85 from four games. Despite the poor form he only drops one place.

5. Steve Smith - 650 - A poor performance in the Sheffield Shield means that Smith has to be satisfied with fifth place this week. His Marsh Cup form was enough to see him move up two spots.

Other mover

Peter Handscomb is another player to take advantage of a double whammy of domestic action. Despite just 119 points, the Victorian moves up three places to 8th. He is also the first player to play in all three formats of cricket in 2021.

Harmer debuts for Titans today.

All our players have debuted by Week 8....we had to wait until Week 47 last year.

Spoke prematurely.......back on - and Harmer got his first wicket of the year.

Titans are also flailing in their batting so he may just get a bat as well.
