Surprisingly Williamson isn't in the bottom 4 least active of the year. He has featured in 11 weeks of the year - thr dame as Peter Siddle and Glenn Maxwell. Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah both have 10. With Warner (9) and Smith (7) bringing up the rear

I notice that my score hasn't changed despite SRH's 202, but it's good know I'm still top regardless

I do need a cushion over the next 5 or 6 weeks before Marnus Lambshanks missus lets him play again. I'm hoping the enforced absence of the bananaman might work in my favour after that if the Australian govt let any cricket go ahead, but I probably still need Marnus being wrapped up in cotton wool ahead of the ashes and maybe a poor WT20 campaign too

Weekly Top 3

1. Joe Root - 201 - The second week in a row that Honest Joe has found himself in the top spot. He is also zoning in on some personal records too. He is just 6 points behind Labuschagne for most runs scored and 30 points off Azam for Batting Bonus points.

2. Babar Azam - 158 - Babar's test perfomance is what is holding him back from being a true all format great. Before this week he had scored just 10% of his runs in Test matches. This is (by some distance) his highest Test score of the year.

3. Virat Kohli - 92 - With his average of 92.56 and his 13th place on the overall List, this is not looking like Virat's year. He has done enough to finish in the Top 3 this week.

Other Movers

I marked Nicholas Pooran out as one to watch last week and after just one CPL game he has jumped 2 places to 9th. He has left Handscomb and Stokes behind him.

Dawid Malan is another player to have not finished in the Top 3 but still made movement up the Overall List. His 7th place finish for the week is the highest he has been since February.

Overall Top 5

It is now the sixth week in a row where the top 5 has stayed the same.

Marnus Labuschagne 3833
Simon Harmer 3667
Joe Root 3487
Babar Azam 2919
Quinton De Kock 2540

Root, who has been in third place now for 7 weeks is zoning in on some upward movement with his performances in Eng v Ind. There is now 180 points between him and Harmer. He is just 346 off Marnus Labuschagne's top spot. We could see that Top 3 looking much more fluid soon.

What we will not see any time soon is anyone outside that Top 3 break in. There is 568 points between third placed Root and 4th placed Azam. This is the second biggest gap on the List after the 570 between Moeen Ali and Dawid Malan.

Joe Root''s average has improved again - this time by 1.95 points. This has seen his average raise by 13.79 points since the start of the Eng v Ind series. Moeen Ali's transition from The Hundred to Tests has seen his average drop 5.62 points to 147.82.

Weekly Update

Precious little cricket completed this week meaning that The Cricket List only had two active players this week.

Winner of Cricketer of the Week is Nicholas Pooran. The West Indian loves an intense spell of short format cricket & is back smiting balls with unabashed fury for Guyana in the CPL. He has leapfrogged Dawid Malan and Ravichandran Ashwin in the overall List & moves up to 7th

Not the most prolific week for Harmer as Shane Snater stole the headlines in Essex's victory over Glamorgan. Whilst he finished second best for the week, it is in the Overall List where some long found joy can be found.

Overall Update

The Top 5 has remained unchanged for the last 6 weeks and the top spot has been Marnus Labuschagne's for the last 23 weeks. But all that has changed this week as Simon Harmer has finally eaten into Marnus' 968 point lead and seized top spot.

The Overall List now looks a little something like this:

Simon Harmer 3849
Marnus Labuschagne 3833
Joe Root 3487
Babar Azam 2919
Quinton De Kock 2540

Harmer has come out of nowhere (comparatively speaking) to regain the top spot that he has not held since December 2018. Marnus has never been lower than 3rd and Root hasn't dropped out of third since February.

In comparison Harmer did not make his debut until March, spent 7 weeks in the bottom place and didn't breach the top 10 until late April but his average points per active week of 192.45 have proved unstoppable.

Highest Players by Format

Top 3 Averages

1. Simon Harmer - 192.45 (Down from 193)
2. Marnus Labuschagne - 191.65
3. Ravichandran Ashwin - 189.4

Harmer's average drops a smidge this week whilst Pooran pops his head into the three figures as he improves by 6.94 to claim an average of 100.1 per active week.

I think the Aussie domestic season starts soon, so I may get the bananaman back in the game before long (he said hopefully)

Of course if Siddle is back in business so is Marnus Lambshanks, I could do with more of a cushion before then, so it would be nice if the next 3 opponents for Essex don't just fold like Glamorgan did. I need Harmer taking wickets not standing around while his seamers take a wicket every over

Weekly Top 5

1. Simon Harmer - 315 - So here we are again, with Harmer winning Cricketer of the Week for the seventh time in 2021. He was won it twice more than Labuschagne and Root who are his nearest competitors.

2. Moeen Ali - 165 - Started the Eng vs Ind series outside of the Test side but has used it as the icing on his cake to a good point-scoring English Summer.

3. Joe Root - 127 - This is the lowest score he has mustered of the 4 Tests by some distance but he ended with an average of 218.5 points per Test....not to be sniffed at.

4. Virat Kohli - 124 - Kohli saved his highest Test score until last in the Eng vs Ind series and manages to creep into the top 5.

5. Nicholas Pooran - 99 - His score this week is far less prolific than his List topping score of last week, however he continues to keep his name in the frame.

Overall Top 5

1. Simon Harmer - 4164 - Holds top spot for the second consecutive week and has opened up a 331 point lead on second and a 550 point lead on third.

2. Marnus Labuschagne - 3833 - His seventh inactive week has hit Marnus - but such was his lead that he still has a 219 point jump on third place.

3. Joe Root - 3614 - Has improved his score over the Eng vs Ind series to the tune of 874 but this is not reflected by any movement away from third spot.

4. Babar Azam - 2919 - Azam's fourth place spot seems as inevitable as the rising sun. He holds it for the 14th consecutive week.

5. Moeen Ali - 2678 - After 7 weeks with no change in the Top 5, Moeen has finished off a successful English Summer by usurping Quinton De Kock from 5th spot. It is the first time Moeen has entered the Top 5.

Jasprit Bumrah caps a good series off with another huge average bump. After starting the series as the lowest point scorer and with the poorest average he is now 5th with an average of 110.85 - better than 6 other players on The List. David Malan was the week's biggest loser as he dropped by 5.57 points per active week.

not at all ominous, Prof. Big Marnus is not in the Aussie WT20 squad, which I assume means shield cricket for him at the time when Harmer goes to sleep for the rest of the year. I definitely need a fully rested and fully firing Bananaman turning out for Tassie, which means he'll probably be given lots more rests

I could do with SRH rounding off the season with a couple of match ten-fers

Weekly Update

Only four players played this week so this is not so much a Top 3 as a list of players who are not Dawid Malan.

1. Quinton De Kock - 227 - QDK joins up with Mumbai Indians in some very good form. He has had three decent tournament's on the trot and will hope to hit the ground running for the resumption of the IPL.

2. Nicholas Pooran - 220 - Guyana did not reach the final but Pooran certainly saved his best sore for last with a strong 75* vs Jamaica.

3. Simon Harmer - 163 - A relatively sanguine score for Harmer this week with 'just' the 4 wickets against Surrey in a rain affected game.

Overall Update

1. Simon Harmer - 4327 - Holds on to top sot for the third week in a row and now has a 494 point lead on second BUT the English Summer is winding down. You feel that that lead is nowhere near big enough.

2. Marnus Labuschagne - 3833 - 2 months inactive and Marnus holds second still. He will have another week off next week but then is back in the saddle for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield the week after.

3. Joe Root - 3614 - The cancellation of the last Test is a disappointment for Root. If he had scored 50 over his average he would have taken second place. But he didn't. So he hasn't.

4. Babar Azam - 2919 - 10 people have held 4th spot across 2021. 7 have held it for a forntight or less. Azam has held that position for 18 weeks now, 10 more than Pooran. You may feel this to be his natural resting place for the year.

5. Quinton De Kock - 2823 - QDK was usurped from his favoured fifth place spot by Moeen last week - but he has snatched it back thanks to a couple of cracking performances against Sri Lanka.

Ones to Watch

For the last 12 weeks there have been just 10 points between 16th placed Kane Williamson and 17th placed Steve Smith. Seeming as they were as inactive as Pompeii it didn't really matter, but as the IPL grinds back into life there could be a real tussle down the bottom there - especially with Bumrah also just one place above Kane.

There is also some interest at the top of the highest point scorers for short form cricket. Azam's 1897 points has been enough to see him in top spot for some while now however there are three IPL playing cricketers bunching up behind him. Nicholas Pooran (1777), Quinton De Kock (1712) and Moeen Ali (1709) will all fancy their chances of usurping the Pakistan captain with a good tournament.

Kane's cricket bag must be pretty musty by now.
I always say that everybody's right.

cheers Prof :salute

you never know, now that SRH is a South African overseas player again, he might fancy a contract with the Warriors again over the winter. If he made himself available again, he would surely interest SA teams

here's hoping

and here's hoping that Tassie bring the bananaman straight back into the side
