Again, we only had 4 players that featured this week so a Top 3 would be disingenuous instead we will do a round up of everyone that played.

The worst of the 4 was, yet again, the player who has scored the most points overall. Marnus Labuschagne had a better outing against Kent but could only boast 51 points by the end of Day 4. His average of 33.5 points a game is the lowest of any County Championship player.

In third spot was another Aussie who hasn't been setting the world alight but also got his highest score this week. 95 points against Surrey courtesy of a score of 70 sees Peter Handscomb finish third place this week.

Due to Essex beating Durham within 3 days, both Essex players have had their totals swollen rather. However Harmer's 198 points from 2 games looks rather miniscule. Would still have finished above Handscomb even without that second game.

Siddle's score of 428 looks huge but he had 2x 200+ points games and very much deserves his inaugural Cricketer of the Week accolade. This is the eight highest score over the last 3 years and beats Marnus' 404 in Jan of last year to be the highest score by an Aussie. Moves up from 13th to 6th on the overall List.

Overall Top 5

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 2115 - Despite poor performances in the County Championship, he has increased his lead in top spot. This will change if his form doesn't. Will score nil points next week so there is hope for the chasing pack.

2. Joe Root - 2039 - Inactive this week but is about to embark on a busy Summer of international cricket that will define his position on The List.

3. Simon Harmer - 1708 - A modest total from the games against Warwickshire and Durham but Harmer still claims third spot.

4. Babar Azam - 1594 - All being well Azam should be back in action on Wednesday to try and reclaim his Top 3 spot after a fortnight inactive

5. Ravichandran Ashwin - Holding on to fifth spot due to the incompetence of those behind him. Handscomb has failed to mount a challenge but Siddle is now breathing down his neck - just 52 points behind.

Top 3 Averages

1. Simon Harmer - 213.5 (Down from 215.71)
2. Ravichandran Ashwin - 185.63
3. Moeen Ali - 174

Marnus continues to lose average points week on week. He is 6.43 points poorer this week. Siddle has swollen his week on week average by a huge 31.93 points to 140.6

oooh

on the charge

although with this latest Essex match finishing early, I won't be posting any improvement next week

(is Siddle's score right, btw, because 1708 and 1433 don't make 3108 and 978 plus 428 is 1406 not 1433)

Yes....no idea why I put 1433. Apologies.

You have 3114 as a total.

Siddle got 428 taking him to 1406.

Only two players to complete games so far this week but quite a few shifts to consider.

Moeen Ali gets his inaugural Cricketer of the Week accolade, not for tearing it up in Chennai but for warming up for the Blast in a Worcestershire 2nd XI game at Barnt Green. His 82 points is now the lowest weekly high score since the start of 2019. He moves up 2 spots to 11th.

Peter Handscomb was the only other active player in the last week. His OK-ish score of 62 against Leicestershire is enough to see him jump 2 places and knock Ashwin out the Top 5. Handscomb has been 5th for 6 weeks out of the last 12 but never stays there longer than a fortnight.

Apart from Handscomb, the Top 5 remains unchanged

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 2115
2. Joe Root - 2039
3. Simon Harmer - 1708
4. Babar Azam - 1595
5. Peter Handscomb - 1495

Excitingly, all of those top 4 will be completing games over the next few days so it could all change.

Highest Players by Format

Long Form - Joe Root - 2039
50 Over - Nicholas Pooran - 431

Top 3 Averages

1. Simon Harmer - 213.5
2. Ravichandran Ashwin - 185.63
3. Joe Root - 169.92

Despite top-scoring for the week, Ali's score of 82 hit his previous average of 174 points per active week quite hard. He drops out of the Top 3 and is replaced by Joe Root.

Weekly Top 5

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 403 - Scored more points this week than he did in his last 5 active weeks combined. His opening salvo of 183 points in the T20 Blast could be a sign of big things to come. This is the 11th highest score we have ever seen.

2. Simon Harmer - 374 - Seperated his play between County Championship and T20 Blast this week. T20 is his weakest format so this could be his last Daddy score until the long form cricket comes up.

3. Moeen Ali - 332 - Has brought his IPL form to the T20 Blast. Opened the tournament with points hauls of 86 and 162. Moved up three places to 8th.

4. Dawid Malan - 312 - An unlucky year for Malan saw the IPL wrapped up after his debut but he cashed in with a huge score for Yorkshire against Sussex. His 249 points from that game was the highest County Championship total not scored by Simon Harmer. Up a huge 5 places to 12th.

5. Joe Root - 172 - Always a bit galling when England lose but Joe Root manages to get in the Top 5...but it happens so very often.

Overall Top 5

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 2518 - Just when it looked like Root was catching up with him, Marnus registers his highest score of the year so far. His lead is back up to 307 after being just 76 last week.

2. Joe Root - 2211 - Started the week with a chance of nipping in to top spot but instead spends his 11th consecutive week in second.

3. Simon Harmer 2082 - Finished second highest for the week but remains in third overall - however has put a gap between him and third. 353 points separate the Big Three from the chasing pack.

4. Babar Azam - 1729 - Babar is back in action in his favourite format in his favourite competition. Got 135 from his opening salvo but will need to put some big scores together to move up the List.

5. Peter Siddle - 1577 - Gallingly the Essex man moves into the the Top 5 the week where he returned to Australia for personal reasons. One suspects that this will be his highest position for the rest of the year.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin - 185.63
3. Moeen Ali - 182.25 (Up from 160.86)

Ali retains his top 3 place at the expense of Root. 4 players registered improvements of 20 points or more on their average this week but Dawid Malan sees the biggest spike; up 22.41 points to 110.3. Williamson experiences a dip of 8.43 down to 89.9 - the worst of anyone on the List.

Weekly Top 5

1. Marnus Labusachagne - 403 - Ridiculous consistency from Marnus in the T20 Blast sees him score 403 points for the second week in a row. Is averaging 118.2 points a game.

2. Babar Azam - 268 - Always does very well in his home T20 tournament and had 2 100+ point games out of four this week. Has taken over from Glenn Maxwell as the highest T20 point scorer for the year this wewk.

3. Quinton De Kock - 201 - Time to wheel out the old 'liberated from the captaincy' line. Whatever way you look at it, this is his highest weekly score of 2021. Moves up three places to 14th.

4. Moeen Ali - 59 - A quieter week than the week before but enough for Moeen to sneak into the top 5. He also moves up two places to sixth spot on the Overall List.

5. Joe Root - 55 - Another poor performance from the England captain but manages to pip Simon Harmer into fifth spot for the week this week.

Overall Top 5

1. Marnus Labuschagne - 2921 - We are a long way for being done with this year but Marnus has opened up a 655 point gap at the top of the table. There are shadows of Maxwell's dominance from 2018 to his performances this year.

2. Joe Root - 2266 - He's not covered himself with glory in the England v New Zealand series but holds his second place spot whilst allowing first to rapidly disappear over the horizon.

3. Simon Harmer - 2135 - T20 is not Harmer's strongest suit but he has a comfortable enough cushion off fourth spot....for now.

4. Babar Azam - 1997 - Such was the gap between the top 3 and the rest of the pack that Azam's recent burst only marginally narrows the gap. He spends his fourth week in fourth.

5. Peter Siddle - 1577 - Manages to hold onto his fifth place spot by the very skin of his teeth. Short of a miracle he will exit the Top 5 next week.

On a personal level after having gone for 9 weeks without scoring a point and dropping from 2nd to 7th in the process, I have both Ashwin AND Stokes back in action today.
