Looks like Kyle Abbott is going to avoid the indignity of scoring 0 for the year.

He will be turning out for Jaffna in Sri Lanka's first intenational T20 competition.

Only a brief update this week:

Movers

Lewis Gregory - 122 - The Somerset man was long overdue an impressive England performance. He was the second highest points scorer on The List that played in yesterday's intra-squad game. He moves back up to fourth and overtakes Jason Holder.

Martin Guptill - 54 - The Auckland player has had a modest start to the Plunket Shield but he is moving back up The List again. He has overtaken Mohammad Nabi into 16th.

Weekly Top Five

1. Babar Azam - 238 - The Pakistan captain's T20 form sees him top the Weekly List once more. He has finished in top spot 5 times - the joint most with Ben Stokes.

2. Joe Root - 147 - The England Test captain has been out in the cold for a while - inexplicably becoming the Cricketer to have not played for the longest time this week - but returned with 77 and a wicket in the England Intra Squad game.

3. Lewis Gregory - 122 - Needed a good game to impress England selectors before the South Africa series. Three wickets represents his best reward in the shortest form for some while.

4. Ben Stokes - 70 - Seems an age since we last saw Stokes in England colours and 70 points overall is a modest total for his return. It is enough for fourth spot.

5. Martin Guptill - 54 - Another modest score for the Auckland man but enough to see him finish fifth for the week in what has been a low scoring week.

Yearly Top Five

1. Babar Azam - 3082 - Extends his lead at the top of the table to 283 points. This is his second consecutive week in first place after managing just one week five weeks ago.

2. Ben Stokes - 2799 - Back in action after a week's rest that saw him drop into second. He has not managed to regain top spot but has the South Africa series to try and push for the top of The List.

3. Joe Root - 2427 - back in action this week after seven weeks away. When he last played he was in top spot and has subsequently slipped to third. How high can he get before the end of the year?

4. Lewis Gregory - 2248 - Moves up a spot this week thanks to three wickets in the England intra squad game. His average active week score of 132.24 - a testament to the fact that he has played lots of slightly above average cricket this year.

5. Jason Holder - 2147 - Just the one week in fourth spot for Holder as he drops back down to fifth spot. He only has a 79 point lead on David Warner but will be back in action for the West Indies this week.

The Doc never stops moving ahead, even with Gentle Ben idle for so much of the year.

Babar Azam was an inspired pick.

Movers

Virat Kohli - 41 - Despite a score that sees him outside the top 5 for points this week, Kohli still manages to jump two places. He moves up to 13th at the expense of Travis Head and Shubman Gill.

David Warner - 99 - Despite being the least pyrotechnic of the Aussie batsmen in their first ODI against India, Warner benefits the most. He moves into the Top 5 for the first time since January. Jason Holder drops out of the Top 5.

Aaron Finch - 164 - Finch averaged 35.67 per IPL game but looked a changed man in the first ODI against India. He moves up a place into 7th with Harmer moving down one.

Glenn Maxwell - 95 - The Big Show was back in town as Maxwell put his poor IPL form behind him to move into 11th place - overtaking Keshav Maharaj.

Weekly Top Five

1. Steve Smith - 175 - Smith enjoys the opening game of a tournament. After scoring 109 points in his first IPL game, he started to fade away. His Cricketer of the Week winning knock in the first ODI v India is most impressive but can he sustain this level of performance?

2. Aaron Finch - 164 - The Australia captain has an uncanny knack of pulling out a big performance when it is most needed of him. After an underwhelming IPL, he was back to his best here. One of only two players to increase their weekly average this week.

3. David Warner - 99 - Big things were expected of Warner after a successful IPL campaign. 99 is a decent score but looks under baked compared to other performances.

4. Glenn Maxwell - 95 - According to many Maxwell's position was at threat in this ODI series. I doubt if that is the case anymore. His middle order explosiveness pushed the game to unmanageable proportions for India.

5. Joe Root - 85 - It is perhaps ironic that the fifth highest score for the week came from a player who we all knew would not feature in the T20 series between England and South Africa. A score of 45 at a decent lick sees Root into fifth spot.

Yearly Top Five

1. Babar Azam - 3082 - Remains in top spot despite having not played this week. His lead on Stokes is now 203.

2. Ben Stokes - 2879 - A meagre 80 points from Stokes this week as he played second fiddle to Jonny Bairstow. He still eats into the deficit from top spot.

3. Joe Root - 2512 - Just the 85 points from a warm up game for Root. As the year draws in it is starting to look like third might be Root's eventual final score.

4. Lewis Gregory - 2248 - Suffered the indignity of scoring a pure 0 in the final intra-squad friendly. Hits his average score per week considerably (moving down to 124.89 from 132.24) - however he retains fourth spot for the year.

5. David Warner - 2167 - Warner has only been in the Top 5 once in 2020 but has moved back in just as the year comes to an end. A good antipodean Summer could see him make even more progress.

Weekly Top Five

1. Glenn Maxwell - 284 - Last year The Big Show won Cricketer of the Week 5 times....this is his first but well justified after a big hitting week for Australia. 70 of his points came from SR. Moved up one place to 10th overall.

2. Virat Kohli - 258 - A quiet year for Kohli who still finds himself outside of the top ten for the year despite this week's big haul. It is, by some distance, his highest weekly total of 2020 and takes his weekly average up to above 100 again. Moved up one place to 12th overall.

3. Aaron Finch - 250 - Despite finishing third for the week, Finch has been one of the biggest beneficiaries on this Week's List. He has moved up three places overall and improves his weekly average by 7.12 points to 114.75.
4. Steve Smith - 213 - His T20 form stops him from finishing any higher up the list after his table topping performance last week but it has been a very good start to the Summer for Smudger. Moved up two places to 8th overall.

5. Marnus Labuschagne - 127 - A disappointing debut as an opener aside, it has been a pretty good week for Marnus. His 70 at the start of the week was the highlight. Held 9th place overall

Movers

The only other mover on The List this week was Martin Guptill whose 54 was enough to see him overtake Shubmann Gill and Travis Head and move into 14th

Yearly Top Five

1. Babar Azam - 3082 - Despite his week being spent in quarantine, he still manages to hold onto top spot. The lead is now down to 127.

2. Ben Stokes - 2955 - Another below par week for Stokes as his average for active weeks continues to drop. He is still zeroing in on top spot.

3. Joe Root - 2512 - An inactive week does not bother Root. He is in a little world of his own; 217 points above fourth and 443 points away from second. Third is his destiny.

4. Aaron Finch - 2295 - The last time Finch popped his head into the top five was at the start of March. Fourth is his highest placing of the year. A good Australian Summer and he could keep his place there.

5. David Warner - 2290 - Injury may put this position in danger going forward. He is 42 points off Lewis Gregory and 69 off Jason Holder.

Weekly Top Five

1. Glenn Maxwell - 262 - Like busses, Maxwell has waited all year for a Cricketer of the Week accolade and gets 2 in succession. It is the seventh time he has won ever - only Stokes, Harmer and Rashid Khan have won more.

2. Virat Kohli - 205 - Believe it or not this is the first time that Kohli has re-entered the Top Ten since March. His big knocks for India against Australia gave seen him pick up 504 points in the last 3 weeks.

3. Steve Smith - 140 - A slightly above average score for Steve Smit. He holds 8th for the second week in a row on the Overall List in what has been quite an inconsistent year. Flashes of brilliance amongst some fairly anonymous performances.

4. Martin Guptill - 136 - Guptill continues a trend of under-performing for New Zealand before returning to the green green grasses of Auckland and playing out of his skin. Two decent scores in the Ford Trophy sees him move up a place for the second week in a row.

5. Travis Head - 120 - An unusual week for Head as he finishes in the Top 5 for the week but scored 83.34% of his points for the week with the ball. Under performed with the bat at just the wrong time for international duties.

All Time Top 5

1. Babar Azam - 3082 - A final gameless week for Azam and he is still in top spot. The non-completion of Sa vs Eng aided the Pakistan captain bigtime. With two more weeks in the year his lead is 127. We might just be looking at our Cricketer of the Year.

2. Ben Stokes - 2955 - An unexpected week of no appearances sees Stokes hold second place. It is now five weeks since the Durham man lost his top spot.

3. Joe Root - 2512 - 204 and 205 points now separate Joe Root from Aaron Finch and Jason Holder. After seeming so confident about him finishing on the podium, could the West Indian push him to the end?

4. Aaron Finch - 2305 - A score of just 10 for the week sees Finch hold on to fourth spot by the narrowest of narrow margins. A successful early BBL campaign may see him progress further.

5. Jason Holder - 2304 - Despite only scoring 83 this week and suffering a humiliating defeat to New Zealand, Holder has moved up two places this week and finds himself just 1 point off of 4th spot.

I finish work next week so my timescale is probably

Launch it next weekend and give people until the 27th to announce the player they want to keep (if any) and send me their selections.

Do the draft on the 27th.

Weekly Top 5

1. Shubman Gill - 158 - Many felt that Gill's 43 & 65 for the Indians v Australia A would give him a Test berth. This did not come to pass but he wins Cricketer of the Week for the 3rd time this year. It's worth noting that Gill has 2 of the lowest scoring weeks of Weekly winners

2. Jason Holder - 140 - Another example of a losing captain doing very well for themselves. This is his highest score since the end of the IPL.

3. Virat Kohli - 118 - The starkest example of an individual player's success standing in contrast to their team's failings. Kohli ends his year with a third spot for the week. He is in tenth spot overall. Will he hold it for the last 11 days?

4. Keshav Maharaj - 110 - A month in the wilderness has not dented Maharaj's impact. A 3-fer in a rain effected game for the Dolphins sees him take 4th spot for the week. How different his year may have been without Covid.

5. Aaron Finch - 77 - Takes 5th place from one average performance and one poor one in the BBL. His average has dropped to 108.27 per week's active.

Other Movers

Glenn Maxwell - Maxwell has had a bit of a late burst of performances this year. He only scored 59 this week but moved up two places to 7th. This is his highest position on the overall table since January.

Overall Top Five

1. Babar Azam - 3082 - Questions over whether Babar plays again this year but is now looking a cert to join Simon Harmer and Glenn Maxwell in the pantheon of Cricketers of the Year.

2. Ben Stokes - 2955 - No further cricket this year for Big Ben. Second place is his. Would very likely have forced his way to the top of the South Africa series had gone ahead.

3. Joe Root - 2512 - Has Holder coming up behind him but has probably done enough to hold third spot for the year. This would reflect his highest ever year end position after being 10th in 2018 and 5th last year.

4. Jason Holder - 2444 - The only upwards mover in the top 5 this week. Despite two humiliating losses to New Zealand, Holder has cemented his place in the Top Five for the Year.

5. Aaron Finch - 2382 - Some distinctly averages BBL performance sees Finch drop a place to 5th.
