even in a forum game stuart macgill ends up playing second fiddle to an all-time great

if he had been born in a different era to warne he might have been the guy with 800 wickets

Maybe Mathews v Miller is a query.

Martyn is unlucky to be on the sidelines. Again could bat at six for Miller.

Other Ms to average above 40: Salim Malik, Charles Macartney, Jackie McGlew.

Brendan McCullum v Rod Marsh.

Fazal Mahmood v Craig McDermott.

Other Ms averaging below 30 with the ball: Graham McKenzie, Saqlain Mushtaq, Ashley Mallett.

Any thoughts? Marsh is a legend, but BMac was a bit of a phenomenon, though his best batting came when he relinquished the gloves. Perhaps a case for BMac ahead of McCabe.

Think the Ms would win a local derby with the Ns, who look a bit second string for me.

Except Ns can qualify if they have played for Northants obviously.

I realise it is nearly Sunday but we seem to have forgotten Hanif Mohammad. Should he not be opening instead of McKenzie?

Mushtaq Mohammad would probably be ahead of McKenzie too, but certainly Hanif. Good call. Not back up on BMac so stay with the Aussies.

A decent best-of-the-rest XI from the first half of the alphabet:

Hayden
Haynes
Crowe
Martyn
Kallicharan
Mathews
McCullum
Lee
Alderman
Larwood
Gibbs/MacGill/Mushtaq
