Klusener would probably make an ODI side. Not sure for Tests though.

we've went with players with a small-ish body of work at international level before based on "what if" or their domestic record but not when there have been obvious alternatives with a much longer career behind them

I've often said that to succeed at the highest level in any sport you need 3 things, talent, temperament and commitment. Kambli is someone that had talent in abundance but not enough to overcome his problems in the other two.

I wouldn't put Kambli anywhere near the team. Kanhai at 3 for me.

I'm coming round to Kanhai being in.

Kallicharran out? Or Kohli?

Would Kohli's ego stand up to being a number 6?

Kalli feels more of a six and had a career of stature. Question is whether picking Kohli is because he just happens to be playing now and is fresh in the mind? Though he would be a strong pick.

In this instance is there a case to be made for a no. 1 with five no. 3's and 4's, being a better bet than 2 openers whilst leaving out a better player?

Kalli (and Rohan) both played at a time when bowlers were more dominant. Though Virat (wish there was an e on the end of his name to give us v. irate) does play on challenging home pitches (but not facing any good spinners). I feel attached to the great Kallicharran, of the legendary hook shot, but unless there's more comment in favour of Alvin, maybe Kohli's better average should decide.

Dunno. Change it how you see it. Kat averages 45 from 56 Tests, with ten tons, no runs against minnows and averages over 50 in 33 Tests as an opener, by the way.

He also played in a dominant team with a lot of the best bowlers on his side?
