The maximum wage has been reduced by £20K too!

but could we not leave the budget at £1.5m so that more of the 30 players are actually chosen rather than down to luck in the allocations?

The budget was set deliberately at that amount. Having played a similarly based football game for a few years, I realised that one of the keys to how the game works well is setting the level correctly.

I'm thinking of taking my cash and running off to the Bahamas, 1.32 million should be enough.

I will probably be on sporadically between now and Sunday to answer any questions, depending on connectivity in rural Lincolnshire ;)

James Tomlinson from Hampshire. Don't ask me why, but DFM and Powelly both laid down rather excessive bids on him last year.

No restrictions on players as far as I remember, certainly not by division. But you have to account for internationals, and its good to have a spread of counties because some gameweeks counties don't play, I only got 13-14 matches out of my Sussex heavy team last year, and on weeks they didn't play but a game week was scheduled, I took a massive shelling

And yet it was I who claimed him ahead of both of them.

it's a secret bidding process, hope, so you'll need to rethink the bids and then send them to ian via private message, in order to not telegraph, to unscrupulous types like me, what your bidding intentions are. I will give you a little tip though..... have a look at last years thread, and scan through to the results of the bidding process to see how much popular players went for in the end. Someone like Stevens of kent will go for a lot more than his minimum bid price....... a lot more

It's worth guessing what others might bid, because the person bidding highest in the first round will ultimately be in the best position to secure the player. It sounds obvious, but the leading bidder in the opening round can secure that player in the third round uncontested, if he so wishes.

EG
Only you and I bid for Vince (unlikely, but bear with me). I bid 100k for Vince in the opening round, but you bid 90k. I am the lead bidder. In the second round, you can bid higher for Vince, but it doesn't secure you the player, because as lead bidder, I can outbid you to secure the player in the third round

opening round I bid 100k, you bid 90. round 2 you come back and bid 120k for Vince. If I decide not to bid higher, or haven't got the funds to bid higher, the player can be yours, BUT!!!! if I do have the funds and do want the player, as lead bidder initially, I can up my bid to 130k and the player is definitely mine.... nothing anyone else can do about it, because I was the lead bidder in the first place

so have a think about which are likely to be the most popular players and adjust your opening bids accordingly. It isn't necessary to bid for 30 players at this stage. Pick your key targets, and try to keep some cash in reserve for later

Blimey....... I'm shooting myself in the foot here

I wish someone had explained this to me last year, because I did what you seem to be tryin gto do, and I got hammered

Those aren't my bids DFM, those prices are the values Ian put up. I'm hoping to get some at vastly lower prices. The 1.32 million only works out at 44,000 per player so it's lower prices or fewer players.

you can't bid lower, hoping to pick up bargains. The list prices are minimum prices

I thought Ian said earlier that you can bid lower than those values but a minimum of 10,000.

This is from Ian earlier:

£1,320,000 to spend in an auction that will have a maximum of 4 rounds. The minimum differential level between bids will be £10,000: i.e. you could bid £10,000, £50,000 or £250,000 for a player, but not £25,000 or £30,001..

Sorry if this wasn't clear HFTB. The regulars would have known from previous years.

The player values listed is the minimum bid.

Bids higher than the minimum must be made in steps of £10,000.

Any other questions please ask :)
