Essentially, a list of players with a set value will be released before the first round of the draft. You have a squad of 30 bodies to fill, and a set amount of money to do it.

First round - bid on any player in county cricket as long as their original value is at least paid. For top players, expect to add money on to secure them, as people will go over the top to secure the best talent. No player is signed in the first round because....

Second Round - Any player can then go over the top of the original bid, but they do have to realise that the person who won the player in the first round with the highest bid can, in the third round, win the player uncontested by beating the value set in the second round.

If a player is not bidded on in the first round, and is subjected to a bid in a subsequent round, you win them outright that round. So its only the top players that are going to be subject to counter bids.

Tips - GET BOWLERS..... no batting line up outscored mine last year, but balance of the squad is paramount.
Get back up players.....
Don't bid on Thommo..... Durham and Powelly will spend half their budget to secure him

Thaks that makes it a lot clearer except who is Thommo....?

Presumably I need 15 div2 players and 15 div1 players in my 30 players.

James Tomlinson from Hampshire. Don't ask me why, but DFM and Powelly both laid down rather excessive bids on him last year.

No restrictions on players as far as I remember, certainly not by division. But you have to account for internationals, and its good to have a spread of counties because some gameweeks counties don't play, I only got 13-14 matches out of my Sussex heavy team last year, and on weeks they didn't play but a game week was scheduled, I took a massive shelling

Good news - information is in :!:

I will post player prices and how the auction works this evening.

We currently have 9 players (a tenth would be lovely) I thought Adi might have been interested :dunno

Ideally if we could have have deadlines on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week, then I can run the auction and finalise squads on Thursday and managers can select their teams Friday and Saturday prior to the first matches on Sunday 12th. This would mean that the 3 weeks with only 5 CC fixtures could be omitted from our game.

I accept this is short notice, so I would appreciate if managers could post on here whether this is ok :)

Player list:

Auction/Lottery

Firstly, I’ll explain the logic of the auction and player lottery. I wanted teams to get the vast majority of their players by tactics, rather than just by luck. That’s why we’re doing the opening auction. Players are valued between £10,000 to £80,000, and everyone has £1,320,000 to spend on the players who they would like. If you want to go after the top players that may hinder your ability to get a good squad all round, with a depth of players from a variety of counties. That is your choice of tactics.

The rest of your squad will be decided by a lottery. You will be given a budget post-auction (actual amount TBC) + anything you don’t spend in the auction. This will then decide what players you get. The more money you have for the lottery and the less players you need to buy, the better the players you will get. You have no control over the lottery beyond that though: there is a balance between spending a lot of money on the best players, and getting a team with the talented players more evenly distributed through it.

Auction

Okay. This is how the auction is going to work:

£1,320,000 to spend in an auction that will have a maximum of 4 rounds. The minimum differential level between bids will be £10,000: i.e. you could bid £10,000, £50,000 or £250,000 for a player, but not £25,000 or £30,001.

Round 1

The highest bidder for a player in round 1 is guaranteed the final bid. They cannot be outbidded without having a chance to counter. This will give a big advantage to people bidding high in round 1 for the top players. It gives them control.

Round 2

In this round people have the chance to outbid the leading bidder. If nobody outbids the leading bidder, that player is won.

Players can also bid for anyone who wasn't bidded for in round 1. If they are the only one, they will win that player. (it would be logical for people to only bid list price for the players who didn't receive a bid in round 1.)

Round 3

In this round the leading bidder from Round 1 can respond to the Round 2 bids by bidding £10,000 more than the highest Round 2 bid, if they choose to, and will automatically win the player.

Any player who didn't receive a bid in round 1, but multiple managers bidded for in round 2, can be bidded on again by anyone who bidded in round 2. The highest bidder will win that player.

Anyone who hadn't been bidded on at this point will go to the highest bidder after this round.

Round 4

This round will just be for anyone who hasn't spent all their money, to pick up any players that are still available. This round will be a blind auction, with the team bidding the most for each player being allocated them.

All suggestions welcome DFM :)

Needs to be able to determine 2, 3 or even up to 10 way ties!

I have posted the values and budget, so you can start preparing your initial round bids now.

Deadline details will be posted later, but the first one will not be before Monday :)
