Incidentally Ian, I've just noticed that my google docs spreadsheet is missing Kyle Hogg. Not an issue this week though, as Lancs aren't playing. (I have R Sayer down as my final player. No idea who he is, not one of mine any way).

I face the realistic prospect of being annihilated despite my batting core of 5 producing 3 scores over 120 and 2 fifties, and thats without Compton batting twice, and realistically Machan either.... and with two tailenders getting me a hundred runs in the first innings.

As far as I can work out, a batsman smashing an undefeated 100 is as useful as a trundler taking 3/300 in a match, and scoring 15 runs in both innings. The trundlers 3 wickets reduce the batsmans contribution by a factor of 3 (ie he scored 33), and then any runs they score as a bonus.

How many bowlers on average take less than 3 wickets per match if they are considered frontline? On average, everyone.....

What is the ratio of batsman scoring hundreds to innings? Even Bradman wasnt over 50%.....

Sussex - you still need runs on the board to win but it's a balance - if you score a stackload of runs but only take a couple of wickets you would probably lose, but if you took a load of wickets and scored only 50 runs then you would probably lose as well.

Example.... Jeetan patel scored 74 and 10....3/135 with ball, which is unacceptable.

Ed Joyce is out once scoring 250 runs...

Joyce reduced runs by factor of three leaves 82...

Patel wins by 2 runs...despite the fact Joyce has had a game most county players only dream off in a career, Patel has one vastly inferior innings that contributes and a poor bowling performance

I may have got it wrong but that's the way I understand it. Bowlers wickets factor out runs way too much, so all rounders who perform poorly with the bat on average will destroy a specialist batsman so long as they ticket a couple of wickets an innings....

So you are better to play 2-3 batters and bowlers, or 11 bowlers how can average 20 odd with the bat...your wickets mean you hardly need any runs
