well - Rayner was doing nothing and then they dropped him to the second XI for 2 games. I gave up and released him and then he comes into the side and takes a 5wkt haul last week and has 3 wkts in the 1st innings today

Similarly, Agathangelou was in my squad at the start and I thought he'd get a chance for Lancs but then they didn't pick him so I released him and now he's come in and scored a century and a 50 I think

both have now been snapped up by others as well :no

Update after Matchweek 9:

An emphatic victory for Olympian Rutland and comprehensive wins for Clubcricketer and South East Spitfires. Andy CCC had a close win and Red Devils an even tighter one!

I've got a variety of half decent batsmen available for trade, if anyone can offer me some half decent bowlers in return.

They are, with their 2013 county championship averages to date:

Karl Brown 28.8
Ian Westwood 32.0
Will Smith 25.4
Jaik Mickelburgh 25.4
Liam Dawson 41.9
Chesney Hughes 53.7
Rikki Wessels 9.6

Happy to let at least three go, maybe more.

Having had a look at the Telegraph game, these are the new players listed by them:

and these are the original players currently unallocated:

a total just over 180 players (although a fair proportion of these might not play a game!)

As some managers are still not able to field a full team on certain Matchweeks, would it be a good idea to have a mid-season draft to allocate maybe another 5 or 6 players to each team?

The next Matchweek is not until July 8th so we have a week to make a decision, then a week to run the draft.

My proposal would be to have 5 rounds with each round starting with Eagles XI (currently bottom of the league) and finishing with Makhayas Misfits (top)

Player types:

SaintPowelly wrote:Ian, you said at some point soon, players will have to be played in their "correct" position. Is there any chance before that we can have the opportunity to change players positions ( assuming other players have no objections with new roles ) for example I have Groenewald and Alex Gidman both listed as all-rounders, when they are a bowler and a batsman respectively ( I know you didn't select the positions they are listed as )

I also had a PM from RD:

From: Red Devil
To: ianp1970

Ian - I have 2 proposed changes

Wright of Warwks has batted number 11 in every game (I think) so it is difficult to see how he is classed as an all-rounder. I can't see anybody disagreeing with him being called a bowler.

also, I think Collingwood probably bowls about an over an innings over the last couple of seasons on average and has taken probably 2 wickets in those 2 seasons, so again it is difficult to see how he is classed as an all-rounder. I can't see anyone arguing that he should not be classed as a batsman.

The one player in my current squad I would propose changing is North from AR to Bat: he has only bowled 13.2 overs so far this year.

Please can managers post any requested changes here for debate?

Alex Gidman currently listed as an all-rounder, would like him changed to a batsman. very rarely bowls.

Graham Wagg currently listed as an all-rounder, would like him changed to a bowler, 1 hundred in nearly 100 FC games, is hardly an all-rounder.

Tim Groenewald currently listed as an all-rounder, would like him changed to a bowler, has never scored a FC ton and only 4 50s in 98 innings.

Of my players, the following are the better representations in 4 day cricket:

C Hughes - batsman
Yardy - batsman
Wessels - batsman
Wright - batsman
Howell - all-rounder

I'm completely against anymore drafts at this stage - all posters have the ability to release and pick different players already so can get rid of players that are not playing - more drafts at this stage changes the rules halfway through and adds unnecessary complexity

also the reclassification of players seems to be moving away from what i think was said before. IMO any changes should be really obvious ones, not grey areas - personally if someone regularly bowls 10+overs a match then they bowl and if someone bats in the top 9 in the order then they bat. If they do both then I can't see how that is a clearcut case of them not being an all-rounder. I believe the idea was to correct really glaring misclassifications, not to have a go at reclassifying a large number of players.

I would like to opt out of this CFM because I do not have enough time to release players, bid for replacements , keep track of match weeks, select players for matchweek and release/bid again every forthcoming matchweek. Can't see myself being able to do that in second phase as well. Therefore, i would suggest to give someone else an opportunity to participate in this CFM by taking over/replacing my team , and maybe the replacement manager can carry forward the points that i have made, in case there is no objection by others. Finally , a great job done by Ian in conducting such a complex and tedious CFM. :thumb

On the other hand though, we're restricted to only picking a maximum of two all-rounders.

Personally, that is what I disagree with. I don't see why you should be limited to how many bowlers, or all-rounders, or keepers etc you can pick. But on the basis that we are, then I do think it is important to get those who only bat a bit or bowl a bit or keep a bit etc reclassified.

The limit was clear from day one and, like i said, someone who bats a bit or bowls a bit versus a genuine all-rounder becomes a grey area quickly. There are many who argue that Pollock, Wasim, Hadlee do not qualify as all-rounders. I'm with Ian on this one - I think Ian was expecting a handful of reclassifications, that would all be very clear cut. As soon as it's a grey area then the original classification should not change IMO.
