also who am i bidding on today? anyone?

You are leading on the ones posted earlier today.

No one is won in the first round.

You can bid on as many players this round as your budget allows. Bids for players that have already received bids in the first round, must be greater than the previous highest amount.

Can I bid on a player that I didnt bid on in round 1, in round 2, even if someone else has a bid in on round 1? I thought that was the only restriction/

I was going to post this up but ran out of time this morning. I took the first digit of the 7th bid for each manager. Fir tied bids add the two numbers together then if the answer is odd then the first initially takes it and if it is even then the second takes it.

Will post the details later when I get a chance.

This is one bit that people struggle with each year, but I have yet to be offered a better option!

We could just take the players out of the following round and just say the two posters bid again and the highest wins.

However, we should at least have a rule that says if you lose one tie-breaker to another poster then any following ties between those two posters should alternate. It feels wrong that we had two ties between us and both players go to the same poster. Not saying its intentional or personal in any way, but systems have their peculiarities and, at the moment, if 2 posters have 10 tied bids then I think one poster would get all 10 and the other poster would get 0 - just a peculiarity that we need to change imo. I agree that it's a difficult area to get right and I am pretty sure I wouldn't have foreseen this either!

Fair point RD :thumb

If we use the same system next year I will go for alternate tie-break leaders if there is more than one matching top bid from the same pair of managers.

It's nonsense to say there has no alterntive to so called tied games, I put forward a perfect solution that the first timed PM is the high bidder. That's how a real auction works so why not here.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

because we've never had a time limit. If someone is at home in the morning then they can get their bid in first - someone else, like me for example, may always be struggling to get home in time to make their bids for 8pm. It also gives Ian a problem because he doesn't post his bids untill just before he opens the PMs. Therefore, I'm not sure this is a better option than having random (odds/evens) for the first tie and then alternate after that

So how about this......

We take the lock outs and instead of tiebreaks, these players are taken out of the auction for a separate 1 to 1 bidding war.

1. Take original value of player
2. Have posters bid three valutations above this original value to a neutral volunteer poster (I am happy to do it) per player
3. The first bid value that beats its counterparts valuation is the price you pay.

I would suggest multiple valuations are sent to avoid another lockout and the time delay it takes, and I think the original pre auction value be used to stop the unnecessary escalation of prices for the player, because in fairness there is potentially four price rises for the player if not.

There is a potential they go cheaper than the original bid, but I cant see how this would happen where two people bluff each other. You have to think, the information available from previous bids would hardly effect the judgement in value to a negative effect? If you knew someone was willing to pay 50k for something, and you were too, why would you pay less when confronted with the fact the price is lower than expected?

If after three rounds the player is locked out, revert to tiebreaker as normal (which will be used rarely, if ever)
